ASST. PASTOR EUNICE AJOKE ADANLAWO
The life of Mrs. Eunice Ajoke Adanlawo was one of extraordinary light a life marked by resilience, elegance, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family and to God.
In Loving Memory of Mrs. Eunice Ajoke Adanlawo
Born on 24 August 1940, she was named Aribonaja, a name given because she arrived on a market day. She was baptized at four months old, beginning a lifelong journey of faith that shaped her character and her legacy.
She was the beloved daughter of Chief Jeremiah Olubila Ageh and Mrs. Esther Adeyemi Ageh, respected members of their community and St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Ifon. Eunice was the youngest of her mother’s five children and had several half-siblings. Though her father had three wives and many children, she became the only surviving child of Chief Ageh a unique role that shaped her into a woman of dignity, wisdom, and quiet strength.
Early Life & Education
From childhood, Eunice displayed intelligence, curiosity, and a deep love for learning. Her educational journey included Eka Marun Nursery, St. Paul’s Primary School, Ifon School in Ifo, and All Saints Modern School, Owo.
Between 1958 and 1961, she attended the United Missionary College (UMC) Teacher Training College in
Molete, Ibadan.
Her pursuit of excellence later took her to London, after which she returned to
Nigeria to teach in Yekusellu near Benin in 1962, traveled again to the UK in 1963 for further
training, and later worked with the YWCA in Lagos.
Marriage & Family Life
In 1969, she married her sweetheart, John Olabode Adanlawo of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Their early married life took them across Nigeria:
- Port Harcourt, Rivers State
- Lagos State (Ilupeju High School)
- Warri, Delta State (Urhobo College)
- Mosimi, Ogun State (Sagamu High School)
- Finally settling in Lagos State
Their union was blessed with six children. Though she endured the heartbreaking loss of two, she remained a pillar of faith and courage. She is lovingly survived by four children, who continue to carry her light and legacy.
Career & Accomplishments
As a teacher, Eunice nurtured young minds with patience, wisdom, and a deep belief in the power of education.
As a businesswoman, she became an international entrepreneur, traveling between London and Lagos until 1989. Her work reflected ambition, adaptability, and resilience across cultures and continents.
Her Personal Grace
Eunice lived with elegance and joy. She was:
- A fashionista who loved dressing beautifully
- A lover of shopping, exploring new places, and discovering new experiences
- A creative soul who enjoyed crocheting
- A woman who found comfort and companionship in music
- A traveler who fulfilled her dream of visiting Jerusalem in 2017
Even in her later years, she remained active and independent — cooking her own meals, caring for herself, and even going to the gym at 85.
Her Heart & Her Faith
Eunice loved deeply and cared for others with natural tenderness. Her home and heart were open to many. She was warm, amiable, and welcoming the kind of woman whose smile eased burdens and whose words brought comfort.
Above all, she was a woman of prayer. An intercessor. A spiritual anchor. She prayed with conviction and compassion, standing in the gap for her family, friends, and community. Her relationship with God was the foundation of her life.
Her Legacy
Her life was a tapestry woven with love, sacrifice, resilience, and grace. She lived fully, loved deeply, and gave generously as a mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, businesswoman, matriarch, and friend.
Today, we honor her with gratitude. Though she has transitioned from this world,
Her light
